Preparing to Camp With Your Cat – Essential Tips

Look for a Campsite that Allows Cats

People can easily take their cats camping with them just as they would do their dogs but most caravan parks and camping sites do not welcome cats.

Therefore, if they plan to camp with their cat, they should contact the place and ask if cats are allowed.

In case they are not welcome, they will have to camp in a place far from tourist parks. There is no need to worry since the following tips apply for both camping types.

Perhaps, the most challenging thing to do when taking a cat camping is looking for a place to camp.

Bring a first aid kit meant for cats.

Cats are known to be tough and would probably not require surgery if ever they get hurt. Yet, it is still recommended to bring a basic first aid kit designed for a feline pet.

It is just a simple kit, which includes alcohol to clean wounds and bandage to wrap them. It is also a good idea to bring an irrigation solution.

There is nothing needed more than that and cat owners should not pretend to be a vet when camping with their pet.

They just need to put some bandage then bring their cat to a vet as soon as possible. This is the best thing to do if ever it is more than a small cut.

Bring a cat tent/playpen.
There are different ways to secure a cat during camping like bringing an enclosed movable playpen or tent.

A cat can be placed inside a carrier to travel to a campsite and move from one place to another. It is rather unthoughtful and even cruel to leave them inside a small, cramped up space during the whole camping trip.

Cats have a habit of stretching their legs so they need more space to be themselves, the amazing feline friends we love. For this reason, they should have their own tent or a transportable playpen.

When they decide to buy a cat tent like most people do or would rather get a portable playpen, it has to be fully enclosed to prevent their beloved feline from escaping. Nevertheless, they have to make sure that their cat will be able to see their surrounding environment so it would be nice to have lots of mesh.

Since cats love to scratch, it is best to buy a durable scratch pad or this might not last long.

A cat tent/play pen can include pillows, toys, ball of yarn, food, water, treats, a scratching pad and litter box, among others.

Including some of these will let a cat feel more at ease in a confined space.

Make sleeping arrangements for the cat.

It is not that hard to make set a sleeping arrangement for a cat and there are 3 alternatives.

  • Make them sleep inside their own tent or playpen.
  • Place them inside a cat carrier.
  • Let them sleep inside the tent with their human companion.

Each choice has its own pros and cons but this will really have to depend on a cat’s temperament and what will make their pet feel most comfortable.

People can try all alternatives to see which is best for them and their pussy.
