When COVID-19 strike and lockdowns started, millions of Americans decided it was the right time to get a new dog or cat. Now, those pandemic pets are overwhelming animal hospitals, groomers, and pet daycares, in particular as additional people today head back again to the office.

“We’re at our wits’ close,” reported Dr. Jeff Rockwell, owner of Atlantic Veterinary Healthcare facility in Marblehead, which introduced final week that it will not be taking on any new customers. “We have an inflow of new pets and fewer staff members, which is a awful blend.”

It’s the initial time in his 30-yr career that Rockwell has stopped accepting new purchasers.

Pet mother and father hoping to choose their doggy to the pet salon or for a go to to the veterinarian are acquiring that really extended wait times are pushing appointments again to August or later.

An increase in pet dog adoptions in the course of the COVID-19 pandemic is colliding with the ordinary crush of seasonal clients and a scarcity of groomers, vets and vet techs.
