Pandemic pets mind-boggling Marblehead vet, groomers & additional

When COVID-19 strike and lockdowns started, millions of Americans decided it was the right time to get a new dog or cat. Now, those pandemic pets are overwhelming animal hospitals, groomers, and pet daycares, in particular as additional people today head back again to the office.

“We’re at our wits’ close,” reported Dr. Jeff Rockwell, owner of Atlantic Veterinary Healthcare facility in Marblehead, which introduced final week that it will not be taking on any new customers. “We have an inflow of new pets and fewer staff members, which is a awful blend.”

It’s the initial time in his 30-yr career that Rockwell has stopped accepting new purchasers.

“People are tapped out physically and emotionally,” he said. “It’s a challenging predicament – defending the nicely-currently being of our animals and our workforce.”  At minimum two-thirds of Rockwell’s staff members contracted COVID, which led to multiple quarantines and tight staffing.

Ethos Veterinary Overall health operates the Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Medical center in Woburn, along with 22 other animal hospitals all-around the region. It has observed a 40% raise in pets needing emergency procedure since the pandemic begun.
