What Makes Cats Unhappy?
Cats are among the most popular pets worldwide. This is because they are adorable, playful, funny, and curious as well as low maintenance as compared to dogs and other animals. They are very peculiar though and every feline has a list of things they like and dislike. Here are 6 of the things that they usually hate.
Car Rides
Cats, like humans, have habits. They have their own territory and routines plus they really hate it when changes take place. In addition, the idea of a moving vehicle makes them feel confused and unhappy. However, there is one good reason why cats do not like cars. They have the tendency to experience motion sickness and vomit because of anxiety.
Baths
There is an old tale about cats hating to get wet. First of all, unlike humans and dogs, cats do not need to be bathed since they are good at grooming themselves. There are some breeds though like the big cats, which love the wet stuff. Generally, a regular house cat will do its best to avoid water.
Tummy Rubs
One of the areas that differentiate cats from dogs is the former’s hate of being rubbed on the belly. Cats have a very strong instinct and the most vulnerable part of their body is their stomach. When a person pets a cat’s belly, this causes a defensive response like the cat may attack his/her hand using its four paws, with its claws out. The cat’s reaction is a reflex that comes naturally so it is best to avoid touching its tummy.
Loud Noises
When a cat hears a loud noise, it thinks danger is approaching so this will cause a fight response. Cats usually bolt when they sense commotion such as fireworks, cars honking and loud parties. At times, a cat can get spooked with just a sneeze.
Getting Brushed
Brushes are acceptable to cats that have been trained to tolerate them when they were still young. Otherwise, a cat will struggle and try to flee when it is approached by someone holding a brush. Cats can be very fickle and they will let people know if they like to be brushed or not.
Aggressive Petting
Cats might want to put up a front that they are rough predators but deep they are really soft and cuddly. When people pet their cat too aggressively, it will get annoyed and may even swat them with its paws or claws. Moreover, this will over-stimulate their feline pet and trigger its fight response.
Too Much Attention
Dogs always like to get the attention of their owners but on the other hand, cats just like minimal attention. Cats cannot stand being followed around, carried all the time or forced to withstand constant petting. When cats want their owner’s attention, they will meow continuously and rub up on their leg. There is no need to force this.
