Lots of people purchase tactical harnesses for large, powerful dogs, and some also prioritise this style of harness for their service dog – or just because it has a great military-style vibe to it!

Whatever reason you’re looking at the Auroth Tactical Dog harness, it’s a good idea to have a read of this and of the Best Tactical Dog Harnesses before you make up your mind.

So let’s have a look at the Auroth Tactical harness!

What I Love About The Auroth Tactical Harness

It’s Reflective

It’s one of the only Tactical style harnesses to have reflectors! Which, I’m sure on the other harness’ behalf, is a feature they’ve deliberately chosen not to engage with reflectors to adhere to the more militaristic stylings associated with a tactical harness.

Whilst I don’t think this excludes it from being a tactical harness, I do think it’s a nice feature for pets dogs.

It’s Sturdy!

It does achieve the goal of being a sturdy harness, it’s more sturdy than a lot of harnesses and because of the tactical styling gives wonderful coverage too. And, the best part, is that Auroth have managed this without compromising the shoulder movement!

Variety Of Colours

It does come in a wide range of pretty cool colours, which means that if you want something other that the standard “Coyote brown” (yawn!) you absolutely can, if you want a more feminine one? Check! If you want a different tactical harness? This is likely it, go see the array of colours!

Very Affordable

This is the most affordable tactical harness, absolutely. It’s also very reasonably priced compared to the harness market in general.

The Auroth harness from the top down – see how far forward the leash attachment point is? The ID tag area is pretty neat, but it’s also not water tight.

What I Don’t Love About The Auroth Tactical Harness

It Has Aluminium Fixtures

It’s “Affordability” seems to come fro the fact that it’s compromised the ‘quality’ of it’s hardware. Both leash attachment points are aluminium, which means that it’s got some of the weakest choice of attachments of all of the tactical harnesses.

It’s not adjustable in the chest

This one really surprises me, because it’s very consistent among tactical harnesses that they are adjustable for the more barrel chested dogs, but the auroth one does not provide this function. The chest place is a certain size, and that’s it. Which is a shame.

It’s not really a tactical harness…

This is kind of a hybrid harness, I call it a tactical harness, because it refers to itself as a tactical harness.

To me? This is just another regular harness with a few MOLLE system additions and a little more coverage than the ‘average’ harness.

The Back Attachment For The Leash Is Too Far Forward

The Back attachment for the leash is right behind the handle, on top of your dog’s shoulders. This, I really do not understand. I’ve looked at it a number of times, but I just don’t see what benefit it has to go here as opposed to behind the shoulders? Especially for a larger breed.

I would imagine, with a smaller breed, maybe adjusting the attachment point to consider the size and the relative position of the leash (more vertical the smaller the dog), might make sense, but on a large dog, I just see this adding strain in a weird way.

But I am still researching this. Just need to find the right person to discuss it with.

Verdict: The Auroth Tactical Harness

Do I recommend it?

Sure, but it’s not designed for dogs over 60lbs in my opinion. If you have a smaller breed, then yes! This could absolutely work for you. I just don’t see it being appropriate for more forceful dogs, especially seeing just how easy it was to scratch up the harness attachment points.

Whilst it’s affordable? There’s better options in a similar pricepoint, I believe.
